美術教師として、新しい画材や教材を研究する過程から生まれた作品。

授業で使用できる素材を探すなかで、アメリカで子ども向けに販売されていた3Dペンを購入したことから制作が始まった。3Dプリンター用のフィラメントを熱で溶かしながら描くこの道具は、紙やキャンバスの上だけでなく、空中に直接線を引くことを可能にする。

通常、絵画における「描く」という行為は、平面という支持体の上に線や色を定着させることで成立する。しかし3Dペンによって描かれた線は、支持体から離れ、物質として現実の空間へと伸びていく。ここでは、絵画を構成していたはずの「線」そのものが立体化し、絵画と彫刻を隔てていた境界を曖昧にしている。

それは絵画の線でありながら、同時に空間を占有する立体でもある。

《Air Line》は、子どものために開発された新しい画材を起点に、「描く」という行為を平面から空間へと拡張することで、絵画と立体のあいだに生じる曖昧な領域を探っている。
 

Air Line / Series

Air Line emerged from the artist’s work as an art educator and his ongoing research into new materials and tools for teaching.

The work began when he purchased a 3D pen designed for children in the United States, initially to explore its potential as a classroom material. Using the same type of filament found in 3D printers, the pen melts and extrudes plastic to create continuous lines, making it possible to draw not only on paper or canvas, but directly into space.

Conventionally, the act of drawing takes place on a flat support, where lines and colors are fixed to a two-dimensional surface. With a 3D pen, however, the line can leave the support and acquire a physical presence in actual space. A line that would normally function as a pictorial element becomes a material form, blurring the boundary between painting and sculpture.

It remains a drawn line, while at the same time becoming a three-dimensional form that occupies space.

Beginning with a tool originally developed for children, Air Line extends the act of drawing from the surface into space, exploring the boundary between painting and sculpture.
